What is real chocolate?

Real chocolate must include a high percentage of cacao solids and cacao butter, ingredients made from cacao beans: chocolate in its natural form. Baptista guarantees the use of 100% cacao butter and up to 70% cacao solids in its chocolate products. This means you are eating real chocolate and benefiting from its naturally high antioxidant levels (flavinols).

Fresh and natural

Baptista only makes moulded chocolate, which has a longer shelf life than enrobed chocolate. It is then sealed airtight to preserve the freshness of the ingredients in recyclable packaging. Customers will enjoy one of the few imported chocolate brands kept in a temperature-controlled environment from production in Brussels to your store. Baptista chocolate is not frozen at any stage. Natural sugar, extracted from beetroot, is used rather than cane sugar. Baptista chocolate has no preservatives, and is free of gluten, wheat, egg, and yeast. Baptista uses beans that are not genetically modified. All Baptista's dark chocolate products are lactose free, but may contain traces of dairy products.

The best raw materials

Belgian chocolate producers have earned their reputation as the world’s leading chocolate makers by selecting the best and most expensive raw ingredients, most importantly the blend of cacao beans. The Belgian government ensures the country retains its reputation for fine chocolate by refusing to allow the cacao percentage to drop below a certain level or the addition of vegetable fat (a cheap cacao butter substitute) to products that are labelled as ‘Belgian chocolate’.

Origin of the beans

Baptista chocolate beans originate in South America where the beans are called ‘Crillo’, from West Africa called ‘Forastero’ and Asia. A special blend which is sourced from South America and Africa, combining the best of both regions is called ‘Trinitario'.
